The Hum Style Awards are held every year to honor and appreciate our Pakistani actors and their contributions to the entertainment industry. Recently, the 5th Hum Style Awards 2021 was held in Lahore on the 4th of July. Although it was a well-organized star-studded event, it has gained popularity amongst the masses due to all the wrong reasons. The high-status Hum Style Awards 2021 has been under public scrutiny, netizens have criticized celebrities’ revealing outfits and their lack of style. Many commented on how the style in these events has lost that Pakistani touch and some even questioned if our celebrities are going through an identity crisis.
This criticism supported a powerful statement made by our Prime Minister Imran khan in a recent interview. Imran Khan blamed the increase in sexual violence crimes on how women dress in a Muslim majority country. The Prime Minister claimed that in a society, where most women refrain from wearing revealing clothes, wearing such obscene outfits will have an impact on people. Imran Khan emphasized the importance of purdah and how it prevents from creating temptation amongst men in our country.
Although Hum Style Awards is more about style and fashion- it does contradict our Prime Minister’s Ideology related to how women should dress up in Pakistan and how we should be more comfortable with our culture and identity
