Scuba diving is one of the most rapidly growing and sought-after sports across the globe today. Watersports enthusiasts, from novices to experts, plan scuba excursions as first-timers, course-takers or as teachers/guides if they happen to be licence holders.

What is Scuba Diving?

Scuba diving involves plunging underwater where the diver makes use of a scuba (an independent underwater breathing apparatus). For an unrestrained and exciting exploration, divers independently carry their oxygen equipment and breathe comfortably via a regulator. With rebreathers, one produces fewer bubbles and lesser noise while spending extensive time in the submerge.

Distinctive shoes known an Fins are worn by divers to probe; a mask is worn to look around clearly without water seeping inside; a diving suit is worn for protection from the underwater environment; a buoyancy compensator is worn to remain afloat and protect the diver from sinking and other equipment is also attached to the body, depending on the prospects of the dive. Snorkels are utilised when swimming along the surface of the water. Every aspect of safety is widely considered before the diver plunges.

Why is Miami so attractive?

South Florida’s financial, economic and cultural hub Miami boasts of 2 large bay’s, with Biscayne Bay on the east and Everglades to the west. Wide-spread coastlines mean several beautiful beaches and multiple fun activities, including Scuba diving! The prevailing tropical weather all the year through keeps the masses glued to the beach. The plentiful waterfronts facilitate fishing, sailing and boating while snorkelling and Scuba diving are popular on the freshwaters of the Biscayne Bay which is also full of coral reefs.

Mankind is generally attracted to challenges like reaching and exploring mysterious places like the magical sea world. Once submerged, any curious human being, irrespective of age, would enjoy identifying the stunning marine life: colourful algae and plants; different shaped sponges (animals that form a thin layer on the rocks and lie motionless) like hazelnut or a goblet (yes, really!); thousands of varieties of fish, jellyfish, turtles, seahorses, worms (don’t say yuck as these ones are stunning!); Crustaceans; corals; sea fans; Molluscs (like snails or sea shells); Echinoderms (like starfish and sea urchins) and the list goes on. If you’re lucky (or unlucky in a few cases), you may even encounter the loving dolphins, sleek whales and mighty sharks!

Scuba fun

Some diving centres in Miami even facilitate scuba diving at night (surprise surprise!). The mere thought of immersing below the surface after dark is not only greatly enticing but highly creepy and weird simultaneously. It sent a sizzle down my spine to just imagine being underwater with dangerous marines (like an eel trying to snuggle with me, EEK!). Obviously, you wouldn’t necessarily be alone though. An entirely unique world with little or no light at all, except for the light on your headgear, may only sound attractive and inviting to the bravehearts.

A short drive towards the north of Miami, specifically at Pompano Beach, is a renowned spot to try Scuba Diving and Snorkelling. This convenient location attracts countless diving fans every year. So the next time you’re in Miami, do get yourself to take a dive at any prime location of scuba and experience the time of your life!
